Basics of Building Luck, Pt. 2: Preparation

One of the most quoted luck quotes is that luck is where preparation meets opportunity, often attributed to Seneca, a philosopher in Ancient Rome. You’ve seen this happen in your life. You need a bandaid and happen to have on in your first aid kit- it’s lucky you can protect your cut and not get blood all over but you had the bandaid because you are prepared.

I hope we all love traveling with those Mary Poppins people who have the exact right medicine, bandage, list of phone numbers, and an extra phone battery. The time they take to ensure they have prepared for many issues that might pop up make them seem lucky- and when you’re with them, you feel more relaxed and lucky as well.

That relaxation helps you avoid frustration and negativity and not only enjoy the benefits of great luck but also to be more relaxed and see more opportunities around you. You can help out people around you, which makes you feel good and avoids general drama, all good things.

Take the extra time to pack a bandaid, common pain relievers (that kids can’t bust into), tissues, an umbrella, an extra pen, and a safety pin or two. When you’re going on a trip, look at the directions before you go instead of blindly following Siri (which has gotten people into some real pickles). Set out your outfit the night before an important presentation to help keep your stress lower. Preparation definitely helps build your luck- and the luck of those around you!
