LuckyStan™ Lucky Tip! Wear Something Interesting
Give people something interesting and non-controversial to talk about
Let’s say it until we absolutely BELIVE it: I am lucky and getting luckier 🙂
News of the loneliness epidemic is everywhere. Why are we so lonely? Is it our phones (and headphones which only add to the isolation of our devices)? We are just too polarized? Too afraid of rejection? Some say that loneliness is as dangerous as smoking. Seems pretty bad 😕
But we know that building our network- even if it’s a quick interaction, you never know- is a GREAT way to build your luck. Even if it’s your regular barista or receptionist at the gym- be nice and try to get to know people to build your luck and network 😄
It IS difficult to make the first move for people- even if they detect a willingness in the other person to chat. What do you say that won’t offend someone or make you look like a try-hard?
Truth told: I like try-hards and you will unknowingly offend someone sometime.
You should still try when you get the chance. But give others a chance to interact with you by wearing something that they can talk about that isn’t a controversial topic. A hat or scarf from your favorite sports team. Something related to your pet or a hobby. A pin for your club, hometown, or alma mater. A souvenir from traveling. We used to call those “conversation starters”. Be kind to yourself and others and help people know what they can ask you about.
So many people really do want to interact but are afraid of rejection and just don’t know what to say. So give ‘em something to talk about. And, if someone does try to casually strike up a respectful conversation, be gracious, reward them with a small and a bit of conversation (or more, if it feels right).
Making the world a bit nicer and softer and less lonely DEFINITELY makes us all more lucky- especially lucky you!
Make it a lucky week!
Felix
